From Basketball Sensation to Louisville KY Bank Suspect: Unraveling the Story of Connor Sturgeon, the Accused Banker
Ladies and gentlemen, it is with a heavy heart that I address you today regarding the recent tragic events that took place at the Old National Bank in Louisville. As you may already know, the suspect in Monday’s morning massacre has been identified as 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon, a former varsity hoops star, and finance graduate turned banker.
Connor was livestreaming the horrific attack while using a rifle to open fire at about 8:38 a.m., killing four people and injuring nine more, including three police officers. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives or were injured in this senseless act of violence.
It is devastating to hear that the victims included senior vice president Tommy Elliott, market executive Jim Tutt, senior vice president of commercial real estate Josh Barrick, and commercial banking agent Juliana Farmer. The fact that such hardworking individuals lost their lives in the line of duty is truly heartbreaking.
Officer Nicholas Wilt, who was shot in the head, remains in critical but stable condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and his colleagues during this difficult time.
Connor Sturgeon was a popular kid in high school, described as “Mr. Floyd Central” by a former friend and teammate. He was smart, popular, and a star athlete in high school track, football, and basketball. However, he had to wear a helmet during basketball games due to repeated concussions, and it’s unclear if this played a role in his actions on Monday.
After graduating in 2016, Sturgeon attended the University of Alabama, where he pursued the SEC frat life. His LinkedIn profile shows that he worked at Old National Bank as a syndications associate and portfolio banker after completing three summer internships between 2018 and 2020. He held a Master’s in Finance from the University of Alabama and was certified in the RMA Lending Decision Process. He was also on the Young Professionals board for Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana.
Sturgeon had a passion for basketball and hosted a basketball-focused podcast with two buddies. He tweeted about the NBA, as well as supporting the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 and criticizing police violence and former President Donald Trump.
It’s been reported that Sturgeon was fired from Old National Bank last week, but the reason for his dismissal is unknown. It’s clear that the events that took place on Monday morning were a tragedy and we must come together as a community to support those affected by this senseless act of violence.
In conclusion, let us honor the victims of this tragedy by coming together to support one another and working towards creating a safer, more peaceful world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives or were injured in this tragic event.
