Mother of the teenager accused of killing Tristyn Bailey last month tried to wash blood off his jeans
The mother of the teenager accused of killing Tristyn Bailey last month tried to wash blood off his jeans hours after the 13-year-old girl was stabbed to death, according to investigators.
Crystal Lane Smith, 35, was booked into the Saint Johns County jail
at 11:50 a.m. Saturday on a charge of tampering with evidence,
which is a third-degree felony in Florida.
Smith’s son, Aiden, is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Bailey, who was reported missing on May 9 Mother’s Day around 10 a.m.
Investigators have said Aiden is the lone suspect in Bailey’s murder.
According to investigators, the two were spotted on home surveillance video walking together in the Durbin Crossing community. The same camera captured one person, matching Aiden’s description, walking back alone a couple of hours later, according to court documents.
